And what's with people flaming PBB anyway? If you don't like it, don't watch it. If you can't stand people talking about it by the water dispenser or humming in tune of that darned song, then by all means GO THE FUCK AWAY FROM THEM! Just because you guys can't stand the "Jologs"-ness of it all, doesn't give you the right to roll your eyes in front of those who like the show. Geez.

I've read in the PBB forums that the song is so totally silly. Yes, well, sorry if some of us feel we need to hear something positive and empowering. I mean, sure, looking at the reality of the state of our country (the bird flu thing, Glo, VAT thingies, poverty, whatever else) would seem like the right approach, but I guess being Pinoy means looking at the bright side. Is it really a sin to let Pinoys forget about the harshness of life for a little while and enjoy a little song that will probably make them feel better about themselves after hearing it?

I do. I can say I sometimes hate being Filipino. Heck, I cringe whenever we mess up with something (like the White House spying bit... dunno the details, but it's just WRONG) and I wish we have more people that actually do something great (like invent something useful, durr). I hate it when some Pinoys feel proud about stupid stuff like somebody made a computer virus or somebody was pretty enough to snag a Hollywood actor. Or make some poor, clueless soul famous for the wrong reason (like bad grammar and/or pronunciation). Sheesh!

But, well, listening to songs like Pinoy Ako, or last year's NoyPi (Bamboo) are like batteries for the jaded Filipino. It makes us feel like we're still worth something and we're meant for greater things. Maybe it's just me, but they make me feel better about myself. Suddenly, being Pinoy isn't so bad. And it really isn't to begin with...

If only we stop pointing fingers at what makes Pinoys suck or why we act this way and that. Don't blame songs, don't blame TV, don't blame the government. We should really just...start pulling ourselves up. No need for words, songs, books. We just do it.

How Django processes a request

I've decided to kick-start some architecture documentation for Django by describing how the core request handling mechanism in Django works. I'm talking about the part of Django that takes a request from a browser and turns it in to a response - I won't be discussing the template system, object-relational mapper or automated admin interface, which are all separate components; in fact, you don't need to use any of those to build a Django application.

When Django receives a request, the first thing it does is create an HttpRequest object (or subclass there-of) to represent that request. How this is done differs depending on the host environment, with different code depending on if Django is running under mod_python or WSGI (which enables hosting with CGI, Twisted and more). This HttpRequest object is the principle abstraction that enables Django to work under different hosting mechanisms.

Once the object has been created, Django performs URL resolution. This is a process by which the URL specified in the request is used to select a view function to handle the creation of a response. A trivial Django application is simply one or more view functions and a configuration file that maps those functions to URLs.

Having resolved the URL to a view, the view function is called with the request object as the first argument. Other keyword arguments may be passed as well depending on the URL configuration; see the documentation for details.

The view function is where the bulk of the work happens: it is here that database queries are made, templates loaded, HTML is generated and an HttpResponse object encapsulating the result is created. The view function returns this object, which is then passed back to the environment-specific code (mod_python or WSGI) which passes it back to the browser as an HTTP response.

This is all pretty straightforward stuff - but I skipped a couple of important details: exceptions and middleware. The view function doesn't have to return an HttpResponse; it can raise an exception instead, the most common varieties being Http404 (for file-not-found) or Http500 (for server error). In development servers these exceptions will be formatted and sent back to the browser, while in production mode they will be silently logged and a "friendly" error message displayed.

Middleware is even more interesting. Django provides three hooks in the above sequence where middleware classes can intervene, with the middleware classes to be used defined in the site's configuration file. This results in three types of middleware: request, view and response (although one middleware class can apply for more than one hook).

Request middleware runs after the HttpRequest object has been created but before the URL resolver runs, allowing it to modify the request in some way or to return a response of its own before the rest of the application has a chance to run.

View middleware is executed after the URL resolver has been used to identify the view but before the view itself runs. It is passed the view as a callback, allowing it to perform operations before and after the view has been executed. Alternatively, it can avoid running the view function at all.

Response middleware is run right at the end, after a response has been created but before it is passed back to the client. It has the ability to make final modifications to the HttpResponse object; for example, it could remove unnecessary whitespace from HTML or apply gzip compression.

The bulk of the above code can be found in the __call__ method of the ModPythonHandler class and the get_response method of the BaseHandler class. Example middleware classes can be found in the middleware directory. As Django is not yet at a 1.0 release, the above is all subject to potential ~~refactoring~~ future change.

Well, Ela and Pao had to leave for Butuan yesterday evening so they decided to treat everybody to lunch. It was pretty near our place, a restaurant called East Ocean. It's another of those really pricey places and stuff.... but I didn't enjoy it. I can't understand the food and I wasn't really satisfied after leaving the place. Sure, it's sosyal, but I'd choose KFC any day!

Today (Sunday) was alright. I watched the Corpse Bride again with my sister. It was still amazing, heheh. We also ate burritos before going inside the theater. Yummy! Heheh. It wasn't a 100% great experience, tho, 'cause I had colds and I was trying to keep my sneezing at a minimum. Hrm...

Now that I thought about the East Ocean episode, I never really was for glitzy places. I don't like hanging around rich people and wherever it is they mingle about (but then again I never really liked being in places with lots of people anyway :P) . I dunno why, but I'm uncomfy around them. Including my own relatives. They're nice and all, but I really don't like being dragged to places where everyone tends to stare at you when you're different. I hate the feeling. Echt. Most of all, I'm not at all impressed with how much they can spend.... it just makes me roll my eyes a lot... Hrmm.

Well, glad to learn that the Info victory party/parties was/were a success! Sorry I couldn't make it 'cause I don't really like parties and the venues are too far away. Heheh. Exciting developments with Django

The amount of activity surrounding the Django web framework since its not-quite release a few weeks ago is amazing. Adrian, Jacob and Wilson have been working over-time, with 395 check-ins to source control since the 13th of July. They've added WSGI support, a development web server, unit-tests, a ton of documentation, SQLite support, database introspection and dozens of other feature tweaks and bug fixes. Check out the project Timeline for an idea of just how frenetic things have been.

The emerging Django community has been kicking in as well. There's a significant community-led initiative to get internationalisation and localisation going, and a wide number of unofficial tutorials have emerged to complement the one on the site.

Here's where things get really interesting: changes at the Journal-World have kick-started the Django job market. Rob Curley, formally in charge of the World Company's web activities, recently took up a new position at the Naples Daily News in Florida. Rob just hired Eric Moritz, a regular on the #django IRC channel, to work on Django-powered projects there.

Meanwhile, Adrian Holovaty has taken a new job at the Washington Post as "Editor, Editorial Innovations" - a role that is sure to involve some very innovative use of Django (Adrian built chicagocrime.org). Adrian's departure means that the Journal-World are looking for a new developer - here's why you should apply.

One thing's for certain: we're going to see some very exciting Django-powered sites in the next few months.

Source: I won't go on and on about work today, cuz I can't do that every day. This morning I was incredibly slow with making the muffins and I burnt my elbow on the oven and then my fingertips on the icing, and they hurt every time I had to wash anything in hot water. I cried a little bit on my break but nobody noticed. Well, maybe Richard did cuz he was nice to me after that. I got to clean the tables all the rest of the day which is good, I love doing that even though it's boring.

When I was coming back with one of the trays, a man was waiting for me by the dishwasher and asked me what time I finished. I don't know where he was from but he wasn't English. He said "would you like to come out with me? I am a gentleman" and I said "I can't, I'm sorry" and he said "tomorrow, then?" and I said "I'm sorry, I have a boyfriend" and he looked sad and went away. Aww.

I inhale so much smoke at work I feel like I might as well be a smoker myself. The smoking section is right next to the dishwasher, where I spend most of the last half of my shift. I can feel the smoke in my throat and everything. And my fingers reek of cigarettes because I'm always having to pull butts out of the bottom of coffee cups. I hope my fingernails don't go yellow.

My feet really ache from standing up all day. So I got some magic magnetic therapeutic insole things that are going to change my life, apparantly.

I came home and half an hour later Chris had to leave for work, aww. But it'll be nice to get an evening to myself. I'm going to watch Sailor Moon and eat nice pasta. And knit, of course.

(Okay, so this post was all about work in one way or another. But never mind.)

Oh! By the way, everybody who I owe CDs too... I'm so busy at the moment I don't have a chance to do anything. But when I get paid, which should be at the end of the month, I will be sure to go to the post office and post everything I owe. Thankyou for being patient with me ♥

I was sooo excited 'cause, well, it's TIM BURTON, and it would be fun watching it with other people. This was my first time watching a movie with any Info people (aside from that Imelda documentary... but that was for a class).

Well, as promised, I arrived at SM at 2:30 and met Diana at school. Nadine was stuck in traffic so we decided to go around hunting for food. I got Mr. Chips and a bottle of water. Heheh. We met Nadine shortly after we arrived at the ticket counter.

As expected, the movie was great! I love it muchosly! The Corpse Bride, Emily, rocked! I love her flowy veil and that little maggot that lives inside her head! She really is creepy... but also beautiful. Heheh. I still like the songs from Nightmare Before Christmas a lot more, tho.

Anyway, last night (and early in the morning) was really fun 'cause lots of Info people joined the conference and Diana decided to play DJ and played some songs (our requests) via microphone. We invited somebody from Informatics Raintree 'cause he PM'ed me that the Sportsfest will be moved to February (which totally got everyone in the conference frustrated). Hrm...

I personally don't really care much about the idea of merging events with other schools. I hardly even join any on my own school and judging from the behavior of my schoolmates, they'd just group together on one side, and the people from other schools on the other. *sighs* Well, I give it to the Info bigwigs to have thought of the idea. What's really annoying is that SM's about done with the responsibilites assigned to them. Just because Raintree couldn't look for sponsors and whatever the heck they can't do, doesn't mean they can only whine about it and urge the others to move the date! They're just a bunch of whiny, spoiled brats. It's unfair. Now Diana's worried about what to do with the sponsors who already accepted and how to tell them the darned event is cancelled for this November.

This PM there's an emergency meeting at Info (wasn't there 'cause me's in Lapu-lapu). Diana's gonna fill me in about what happened there.

I got sooo tired today! I got up at around 8 in the morning 'cause my sister arrived from Butuan! She gave me lots of stuff my mom bought for me (mostly clothes and earrings) and I was surprised that all she brought home was one bag---filled with my stuff! Then I learned she's just here to enroll herself then go back to Butuan in the evening! Anyway, by then I had a hard time going back to sleep so I took a bath and decided to go to Ayala to look for more decorations for school. Nothing super Halloween-ey in there so I just walked around and was surprised (and excited) to see Janylin sell some shoes 50% off! AND MY FAVE PUMPS WAS ON SALE TOO! So I bought it immediately, even though it's another addition to my new set of very painful yet sexy pairs of shoes. :P

Anyway, seeing there's nothing else in Ayala, at around 12:30, I went to SM to help out in the decorating. I get to cut more pumpkins, paint a certain font for tombstones, and watch Cornelius, Pops, and Kevin have fun scaring people outside (something about a contraption Corni made that makes a fuzzy spider fall on somebody who stopped by the school to see out Photoshopped Halloween pictures at Room A). Pops thought it was a great idea to give candies to the people with the best reaction. Heheh. Oooh...and while helping Cornelius in glueing the leaves on the glass wall for Room A, I accidentally touched the hot glue stick and now I feel this little sting on my thumb. :( Erm... what else? Decorating... and... more decorating... hmm... Hope it's all worth it, tho. We really NEED to win. Heheh.

It's THE DAY! Hehe! I couldn't sleep a wink 'cause I was sooo excited! So I decided to use the time to make some certain "alterations" on my tie (cut a cross from an old black shirt and sew it on the tie :P).

After lunch, took a shower, did my makeup (extra black eyeshadow!), drew a cute little star above my cheek, changed into my goth/punkish/lolita-ish costume and asked Krystel if she thinks it's ok... she gave me a thumbs up! I asked Ate Wena to take a few pics of yours truly so I could send it to Tita Maimai ('cause my mom and Ela wanted to see), and I was on my way to SM!

I arrived at around 2-ish and as I had my bag checked at the entrance, the female guard said "Informatics ka noh? Nindot imo sanina, dai." I smiled and did a sweet pose! I though walking towards the school would be hard 'cause there would be lots of people staring but I can't actually run in my shoes (feels like it's made of wood!) so I had to walk slowly with my head held high... and if anyone would as much as point and say something rude, I'd give 'em a very angry and carefully polished finger! Wah! But it turned out that some of the guys are already outside wearing their costumes and frightening little kids so I felt better about walking all the way towards school. People were complimenting me on my costume and I was glad 'cause it took a whole LOT of effort to put the whole thing together! Even though my shoes are killing me, I felt great all over anyway!

They set up a TV set near the entrance at Informatics showing some scary movies and we also videotaped the reactions of the "victims" of Cornelius' spider thing. Sir Karl wore an all-black outfit with some scary skull necklace (that he wouldn't let anybody touch!), Sir Mel wore all-black stuff as well (and eyeliner overload!), Sir Henry was inspired by that Photoshop manip that I did of him and stuck a plastic knife on his chest... and the rest of the faculty wore funny headresses. The Course Consultants went lilac with their outfits complete with matching wings and wands! So cute! Anyway, you'll see all of it on the album (linked above).

The whole day went really great! I was really glad to see our efforts appreciated by the people who passed by (and by the judges! For 5 days, we decorated the place and they only checked it out for 5 minutes! Heheh!). It really did come together nicely... and there was this great sense of unity with the students---which is rare. Pop's daughter, Blossom, came to visit and she was the cutest thing ever! A bit upset about Cornelius' costume, tho (he's a hunchback!). Heheh.

Ooooh! And the cutest thing happened! We had our picture taken with Sir Karl! It might not sound like a big deal, but Sir Karl usually doesn't want to be in any pictures. It was a RARE opportunity so we took advantage of it! Pops actually sat on his lap and Sir Karl looked like he's ready to throw her down the floor and run! Ahahahah! What was more shocking is that he congratulated me on my costume and gave me a high five! No kidding!!!!!!!

After the judges were gone, everyone was kinda tired and hungry so we all went our separate ways to hunt down some food. I brought another pair of shoes to change if ever I can't walk with my gothilicious ones anymore, so after I changed, Diana, Pops,Cornelius, Maimai, Trixie, Abigail, and I went to Tacos to get some quesadillas. On our way back to the school, we passed by a guy that waved at me and said "Hi Wednesday!". Hmr...

We hung out at Info for a bit and at around 7pm, everybody was off to watch the basketball practice for out Sportsfest. I told them I'll pass and went to Sbarro to buy myself dinner and went home. It was a weird experience 'cause it was quite alright walking with the girls with our costumes... but I was alone and people had these really confused look in their faces when they see me. Heheh. And kids hide behind their parents when they see me! xD

I went home and had dinner with Kuya, Papay, Chichi, and Karl. Then I went directly upstairs and changed, removed my makeup (took a long time!) and went to sleep! I woke up 'cause someone sent me an SMS (with a scary laugh as my message alert tone!) and it was Anton! He was outside the house and he bought pizza! He got to know Bax, played with him for a bit, we ate (while Bax was waiting to be fed some too!), and talked for a bit.

Introducing Django

You may know that I spent a year working in Kansas for a local newspaper - the Lawrence Journal-World. I'm delighted to announce that a decent chunk of the software I worked on there is now available as open-source, in the form of the Django web framework.

Django is an MVC Python web development framework with a strong emphasis on content management. While comparisons with Rails are inevitable (I plan to post one myself shortly), it should be emphasized that Django is by no means a clone of Rails - in fact, development on Django started in October 2003, months before the first public Rails release. That the two frameworks share so many ideas is, I feel, a testament to the design of both.

Django was initially developed by Adrian Holovaty and myself, with Jacob Kaplan-Moss joining the team shortly before my departure. The framework evolved during the construction of a number of sites, which included:

6newslawrence.com, local TV news, the first site to launch using the then nascent Django framework.
lawrence.com, a local entertainment site. Every town should have a site like this; sadly, very few do.
VisitLawrence.com, a local tourism site.
KUSports.com, a sports news site covering the University of Kansas.
LJWorld.com, a local news site and the flagship for the Journal-World.

It's also purring along under the hood of chicagocrime.org and the Django project site itself.

Adrian and I developed Django to allow us to create reasonably complex database driven web applications in as little time as possible. A local newspaper produces a huge amount of information - news stories, events listings, obituaries, sports results, marriage announcements, photo galleries, polls, weather reports and dozens of other bits and pieces. To maximise their value and potential for reuse, these things need to be stored in a database. That database needs a user interface for people to add and modify content, and of course the information needs to be published to a website somewhere.

Django automates most of this - and makes the rest as easy as possible. You create a data description (kind of like an SQL table schema but with additional information about validation rules and interface widgets) and load it in to Django. Django then creates the database tables, model classes and a comprehensive web-based administration interface for your site's staff. All that's left for you to do manually is the code for the public site, which is generally a case of writing a few lines of controller code, configuring some URLs and knocking out some templates.

To give you an idea of how much this speeds up the creation of new sites, consider the case of Game. Game was a site created to provide detailed coverage of little-league games in and around Lawrence (for non-Americans, little-league is baseball and softball for children aged around 5 to 11 - it's amazingly popular). The entire Game site, including news, fixtures, match results, team profiles and even weather forecasts for forthcoming matches took two days to develop.

I haven't been involved with Django since leaving the Journal-World back in September, but now that the framework is open-sourced I look forward to contributing to its further development - both in terms of documentation and actual code. There's already plenty to look at on the Django site (designed by the ever-talented Wilson Miner); I suggest the overview as your first port of call.

Expect to hear a lot more about the framework in the next few weeks.

Source: I'm up at 8.30 and it feels odd. I'm shaking so much that the mouse is going all over the place. I don't think this is stress, this is just being awake early. I went to bed at half past ten and I didn't get to sleep until five because that's my usual bed time. Maybe I could get into an early bed time routine if I got the job, but Chris always has late bed times even if he has early shifts and I don't want to miss out on seeing him. Maybe I wouldn't be able to handle full time after all, maybe I should just go for part time. After all, then if it goes okay I could ask for more shifts and that'd be a good thing. If I start full time it'd be harder to go to part time if I change my mind. But I want more than just Saturday shifts or something, because I want more money. I want to work three days a week maybe. If they offer me either just Saturdays or full time, I'll probably pick full time. But I can't exactly say that I'd rather have part time but will accept full time if that's all they're offering me, can I? Maybe I can kind of ask for somewhere in between? Like, three and a half days? 30 hours a week? Is that just hopelessly picky? I'll try and still sound flexible... I don't want to screw this up. I just don't know how much I can handle.

Plus, I'm wondering if I've even got the time right. On the phone, he said "three... no ten-thirty." Well, maybe he said two-thirty because that's closer to three? How will I know? I can't ring him back because I've had enough of phones. Will it be really awful if I turn up five hours early? I mean, he's going to be at work all day anyway?

And I've just remembered that on my CV I lied and said I'd worked for a week in Lucy's friend's friend's shop, and she asked him and he said he'd be my reference. Which is okay except for the fact they'll ask me what I did and I'll have to lie. I'm going to say I didn't use the till or anything, just put stuff on shelves and answered customer questions. That shouldn't be too hard to lie about. But still!

If they ask me why I've not had a real job before... I'm going to say that I never really needed one before and that as I was doing my Open University studies I didn't look that hard for a job. Is that okay? I could also use my OU as an excuse as to why I don't want to do really full-time, even though you can work full time with it. I'll just say I don't want to push myself too hard...

I really want this job. I just also want to be the kind of person who can get up in the morning, and I don't think I can.

Hmhm... nothing much happened today. I went to Ayala to buy milk and ramen (as usual) and had an early dinner there. After that, tho, I was on a cab heading home when the Orange and Lemons song was playing! Dunno what exactly I was thinking but I sang out the chorus...together with the driver! And we never really looked at each other or whatever, but inside, I was laughing my ass off! It was so cute! At the same time weird and jologs-ish! Heheh.

Anyway, I decided I should really add mousse before drying my hair with the blower everytime I go out 'cause it really does give volume and my hair looks really shiny. Before, I never really made time to do it, though I'm pretty aware what mousse could do... But for a day with behaving hair and no frizzes? Totally worth the extra 30 minutes!

Aww! Sam's task was to take care of two tiny kids (Din-din and LM)! It's so cute 'cause he doesn't know what to do with them and he's totally clueless about what makes them smile and whatever. Day never ceases to amaze me. The doorknob in my room got stuck on the inside, so it's permanently locked. If I'm not careful, I would've locked myself out...which would be a very, very bad situation. I decided to fix the darned thing and looked up some tips online. This page helped me (but what do you care?). Well, it took time... but I got it fixed. I actually had to remove the entire knob off the door (Kuya's probably wondering why my door's really busy at 1:20 am..) and pretty surprised that I managed to! I'm not that useless after all!

Source: Well, since I slept at around 7 in the morning today, I woke up at 5pm. My sister and I were supposed to go watch Dark Water at Ayala after her exam, but it turned out that it wasn't shown anymore and we checked clickthecity.com to see if there's anything interesting to watch... nothing.

So we went to the Country Mall instead 'cause my sister wants to withdraw some money (for a ticket home and to buy a backup phone... her idea). I went with her 'cause I was really bored. She bought this Bird phone (just p2750) so she'd have another one in case her Sony Ericsson gets stolen (happened to her twice!) and so she could use her Smart SIM card.

After buying her phone, we decided to eat dinner at Pizzahut. I took a few pics of my hand.. 'cause I figured my pink nail polish wouldn't last 'til Friday 'cause it's starting to crack at the tips.

OMG... Jenny's dad died! She exited the PBB house just this Saturday because her dad's only got 6 months to live... and in a few days, he passed away. I think it was just a pretty good decision indeed to have done the thing she did because she would've never had the change to spend time with her dad. I feel so sad for Jen...

Anyway, yesterday, the housemate's daily task was to assemble a couple of bikes for charity. Franzen was tasked to memorize all of the housemates' birthdays... but he didn't remember all of them so as punishment, his housemates had to take all bikes apart and reasseble them! Franzen was already feeling super bad while JB shot some mean looks at him! He had the guts to say that Franzen is "mahina" and he should exit the house voluntarily! WTF?! The nerve! I have NO IDEA what Say likes in this guy!... or, well, I can't blame her 100% 'cause JB acts differently around her. The only person he treats decently is Say. Geez.

Ooooh! I have a scoop about JB! He's part of the Victory Christian Fellowship! Promise!!! I thought the whole "Father God, Father God" bit during those times that he led prayers in the house sounded so familiar! Wah! But shame on JB to be such a Bible-thumper! He's always seen reading it but he continues on backbiting and threatening to throw random inanimate objects at Sam! And he claims to have "changed" na daw! In his profile VTR during their entrance in the house, he said he used to be a "bad boy"... wow... if this is his changed side now...what kind of monster was he back then?! I swear...if he escapes eviction this Saturday, imma SCREAM!

I think it's better for his family and friends to vote him out as soon as possible 'cause if they really "love" this dude, they don't want the rest of the world to continue watching this guy becoming more of an asshole every day. People have been pointing out that Big Brother (Director Dyogi)'s wife is a Magsaysay and JB's actually their nephew! The forum people said they are sooo going to raise their eyebrows if Raquel will be the one who will exit the house 'cause basing from the PBB Forums, EVERYBODY HATES HIM! I've been sending text votes to keep The Raq everyday! It's sooo worth the money! Just to get that idiot out of my TV set!

What else? Sam is so cute... as usual. He reminds me of a friendly puppy, heheh. He's trying his darndest getting the tagalog words right and memorizing the PBB lyrics and dance steps. What's best is that he's only a year older than I am! Awwww! ^_^ (right... and the point is? :P)

Hm... no classes today. Some people were having a class inside our room 'cause their own room's got some people taking short-term course. We decided to sit near the lobby, as usual, talking about random stuff (again). Chris was around and I thanked him muchosly for fixing my computer. He told me I still have to buy another soundcard so the computer woudln't slow down again. Hrm..that'll set me back a couple of bucks... but I guess it'll be worth it.

Anyway, we bought some ice cream cones... even though it was raining hard outside. We saw Sheena with her new puppy...it was sooo cute! Heheh. Felt a bit jealous, though, 'cause I always wanted my own pet (well, there's Bax.. but he's not exactly mine). Ah, well.. Cornelius talked about health-thingies..something about a machine at Chong Hua's that could measure your antioxidant count and that'll show how healthy you are. Nyeah... well, I try eating healthy anyway. I've bought two loaves of wheat bread and I have my green tea and my oatmeal (Which reminds Diana of old people xD). At around 4:30, Trixie and I decided to go home but after she left me near the exit, the rain was really pouring so I decided to stay at the mall for a while and go get my breakfast/lunch/dinner at Red Ribbon. I had an empanada and a glass of sprite. Yeah... I felt really nice that I ate so little, but when I went home, Auntie Grace asked me to have dinner again and I can't really say no since it's her house. While me's eating she talked about dieting and eating the right stuff... She also told me to eat some green stuff, etc.. which I normally do but I was too full to eat more... and it seemed like she's scolding me 'cause I looked like I never ate veggies. Agh. -.-; Sometimes I wonder what would happen if I'd just tell her I like how I look now and I don't want to diet and I DO eat vegetables? I mean, I know she hasn't seen me eat any, but I do. It's just annoying that somebody talks about losing weight and eating right and you just KNOW you're the one who looks like you need it the most. I love Auntie Grace, I really do, but sometimes I wish she could just be more tactful when it comes to talking about my eating and my weight. :-( It doesn't help any that you've finally decided to love yourself and somebody comes in and tell you you're still not enough..

I wish I don't have to be so sensitive all the time, tho. I mean, there are some people that other people trample on and they still stand back up and continue on... but I just think about what others tell me too much and wallow about how hurt I am with the things they said. I really need to let some things pass..

She kissed him and the guy immediately asked her why she did that when she said she likes Rico. She said "but he's not here!" OMG! Landiii! Later on, Sam confessed he regret ever kissing Chx! Wahahahahah! She feels that Sam was so into her when in truth, Sam's crush is Say! Wah!

So excited for this Saturday's eliminations! Hopefully JB would get evicted 'cause everybody hates him! He has no idea that people at the PBB forums are itching to get him out of their TV sets! I already sent two text votes to let Racquel stay in the house. THAT JERK IS GOING DOWN!!! And he see PBB at home, watching Sam and Say together! Mwahahahahah! Say's gonna forget all about you, man! And I bet your friends outside are gonna desert you 'cause you were such a backstabbing jerk on TV!

Speaking of another jerk, Willie Revillame's a classic! Last Saturday's Nomination night was terrible! Jenny was with the housemates when Willie said something like she's being a good daughter 'cause she sacrificed PBB for a guy who isn't even her real father! Tactless idiot! And he just HAD to make Jen cry when he mentioned her foster father only had six months to live! Everyone watching saw Jen saying "I wish you didn't say that." (!!!) And when Jen was finally out the house and in the studio, before he handed an envelope to her, Willie took out a wad of money inside to make her touch it! GEEZ, WILLIE! Thank -God- Jenny didn't touch the thing! He could've just handed the envelope to her! No need to advertise that her family needed it badly! -.-; He's just so bastos! I was cussing the whole episode because of that idiot! He does not deserve to be a host in something like PBB. He's made lots of mistakes and he's always bulol and he asks a gazillion stupid questions.

LUG Radio Live

I've been very busy for the last three days. My last two exams (HCI and Marketing) were on Thursday evening and Friday morning respectively, followed by a celebratory barbecue. I was up at 7am on Saturday to get up to Wolverhampton for LUG Radio Live, then back to Bath again by 5.30pm for our graduation summer ball. Finally, I'm heading off to Denmark in the early hours of Monday morning for a week and a bit of camping and Roskilde Let's hope it's a bit drier than Glastonbury was.

LUG Radio Live was a huge success. I have no idea how many people showed up, but it was at least several hundred. I did a lightning talk on Greasemonkey (slides here) which seemed to go pretty well, and ended in a lively Q&A session. I've posted some of my photos from the event up on Flickr.

Mark Shuttleworth seamlessly combined a talk on Ubuntu, the importance of open source, collaborative development tools and what it's like to go in to space. He's a great speaker, and I thoroughly recommend seeing him talk if you ever get a chance. He also mentioned that he would be interesting in sponsoring a bounty towards the development of an open-source SubEthaEdit clone.

The LUG Radio team interviewed Ian Bell, the author of the original Elite. The most interesting revelation was that fitting the compiled Elite game in to 32K was actually easier than getting the uncompiled source code small enough to fit on the hosting architecture (they had to strip out all of the comments).

I met a bunch of interesting people and had a great time, even though I had to leave early to get back in time for the ball. Congratulations to all involved, and I look forward to going again next year.

Matching mary-jane slippers and gloves :D I am actually still working on the second glove, but I wanted to post the pics anyway. The sad thing is they match my website XD That wasn't on purpose though, I just like those colours at the moment. They match my pyjamas too, which is cute.

I got the mary-jane pattern from here. They were really really easy, the k2tog wasn't half as hard as I thought it would be! So now I know how to k2tog and how to use more than one colour.

Next I am going to knit some slippers and gloves for Lucy, and then I am going to try knitting little sweaters for babies, for this charity. I want to do something useful!

This mouse is REALLY annoying me. Sometimes when I click, it doesn't click. And sometimes when I click, it thinks I clicked a different option instead of the one I actually did click. I am not just clicking on the wrong thing - this has been happening all day and I don't think I'd make that many mistakes. Sometimes I know I definitly clicked something different. It's really annoying me, I keep losing tabs and accidentally clicking on stupid adverts. I wonder if we ring them whether they'll send us another or if they'll get fed up of sending us new things. Or maybe it's just a problem with this model, it does look kind of cheap. I wish our old mouse hadn't broken!

Well, this is my first blog using my new XP OS. Heheh. I think it looks good... though it can get a little confusing at times. Anyway, I spent the weekend watching movies at Ayala. On Saturday, saw Sky High. I thought it was a fun movie. Made me wonder what my powers would be and if I'd be a superhero or a sidekick (or a villain) xD. Maybe I'd wanna know what other people are thinking... or shrink to a teeny tiny dot (useful for those embarrasing situations) or maybe have the ability to shape shift... Hmr...

Anyway, today, my sister and I decided to see The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. It was interesting... but it went on pretty longer that I expected. I wanted to go see it 'cause my favorite actresses were there. America Ferrera (Real Women Have Curves) and Amber Tamblyn (Joan of Arcadia). Was pretty impressed with America's attitude 'cause we're kinda the same... we have full figures. I thought she looked pretty, even though in the movie (She plays Carmen) her character was pretty much having issues with her dad's new family who were all blondes and reed-thin. There was this scene where she needed to fit for a gown on her dad's wedding and it was kinda tight around her. Everybody was fussing about how they didn't expect her to be that size and how they'd have to make a new dress and stuff. I know how she felt... it's pretty hard making people understand that not everyone can be size 0. And while people can say you're brilliant and talented and pretty... you know that inside... they tell themselves it's too bad you have big hips. And yeah.. it hurts. So much that you try to starve yourself just to feel you belong.. in the end, you just feel more depressed.

Well, I guess I'm not built to be thin. And I think it's alright. I have an ass and it's their problem if they don't like it. I'm pretty and I have a brain... I think that's enough. I'm sorry if I seem braggy but I think I have the right to feel good about myself.

While I'm at it, Wikipedia's search function is painfully slow. Here's another user script which changes their search button to search the site using Google instead. It also swaps the positions of the "Search" and "Go" buttons, and makes "Search" the default action for the form: wikipedia-googlesearch.user.js.

Bush's response to Hurricane Katrina, says Brookhiser, was doubly disastrous. First (and most important), people died and anarchy was loosed because Bush acted slowly and had surrounded himself with incompetents. Second, as in the immediate aftershock of the 9/11 attacks, Bush failed to provide the proper symbolic rhetoric that is part of the job: "If you can't speak, act," Brookhiser wrote. "Gesture is also a form of speech. Go to your desk. The news will show the chopper landing on the White House lawn. Look serious."
